Elder Dempster
Pensioners'Association
Dinner Service
The Elder Dempster dining service offered separate child and adult menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as cocktail parties for guests.
Dining aboard the ships appears to have been a luxurious occasion, with illustrated menus detailing the selection of meals on offer. Meals were accompanied by music in the dining rooms and much of the crockery and silverware was decorated with the Elder Dempster name or logo.
Children could even choose from animal shaped menu cards and meals were served on a circus animal themed dinner service.
In later years, the Elder Dempster Pensioners’ Association produced a lively newsletter and hosted get togethers. This began with an annual informal lunch, which developed into an October Luncheon and a Ladies Luncheon.
